Oak Knoll After School Sports |
After School Sports Basketball and Volleyball teams participate in the Menlo Park Recreation Department League (Burgess League). The Oak Knoll teams are comprised of only Oak Knoll students. No previous experience is necessary. Teams are organized and coached by parents. Practices are at Oak Knoll and games are played at Burgess Gym. Volleyball Registration is now closed for 4th and 5th Grade Girls Volleyball. The Volleyball league runs from the middle of September and ends before Thanksgiving. Basketball Registration is currently open for 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade Girls and Boys Basketball at www.sportability.com/oakknoll. The cost for each player is $75. Scholarships are available. Registration ends Tuesday, November 10th. NO late registration will be accepted! If the league is unable to accommodate all interested Oak Knoll students, then registration will be based on a first-come, first-serve basis. Team practices begin early December and will be 2 times per week at Oak Knoll. Games begin the second week of January and last through the end of March. Teams generally play one game per week, on one of the two days listed. Games are played at the Burgess Gym on the following days and approximate start times: 3rd Grade Girls - Friday (3:50, 4:45, 5:40) and Saturday (3:20, 4:15, 5:10) 3rd Grade Boys - Friday (3:50, 4:45, 5:40) and Saturday (2:25, 3:20. 4:15, 5:10) 4th Grade Girls - Monday (3:45, 4:40, 5:35) and Tuesday (3:45, 4:40, 5:35) 4th Grade Boys - Monday (3:45, 4:40, 5:35) and Thursday (3:45, 4:40, 5:35) 5th Grade Girls - Wednesday (3:45, 4:40, 5:35) and Thursday (3:45, 4:40, 5:35) 5th Grade Boys - Tuesday (3:45, 4:40, 5:35) and Wednesday (3:45, 4:40, 5:35) Practice times will be determined by the coaches. Teams will be formed once registration is closed. Every effort will be made to make balanced teams. Accommodations cannot be made for scheduling conflicts. Volunteers are needed to support the teams and make the program viable. Please volunteer for one of the following: 1) Coach, 2) Assistant Coach, 3) Scorekeeper, 4) Practice Helper, or 5) Team Parent (organize snacks after games and year-end party). All coaches and assistant coaches must fill out a separate registration for themselves on the Sportabilty website. Coaches are expected to attend a mandatory coaches meeting on November 18 at 7:00 p.m. to form the teams. In addition, attendance is highly encouraged at a specially sponsored Oak Knoll coaches’ clinic on December 2nd at 7:00 p.m. which will cover skills, drills and practice outlines. Both meetings will be held at the Oak Knoll multi. Questions? Contact Maria Mills or Donna McMaster |
